WHAT IS A PARAMEDIC?

This is an individual dedicated to providing pre – hospital care to the sick and injured of the community.

In North Carolina, the paramedic provides the highest level of care outside of the hospital setting.  These individuals have completed extensive training in order to administer the correct treatments for a variety of medical problems as well as beginning the fluid resuscitation often required for victims of trauma.

These medical professionals have completed well over 700 hours of training (classroom, field internship, and clinical) before being allowed to test for their certification.  Then, and only then will they be allowed to practice in the field setting, often times being supervised closely for a period of time.

These individuals care and wish to provide the best possible care.  The training doesn’t end with achieving certification.  These individuals maintain their education by attending classes monthly as well as participating in skills practice sessions.

Their performance is constantly monitored at both the local and State level.
